Sarguna Nathar Temple is a Hindu
temple located in the
village of Idumbavanam in the Thiruthuraipoondi Taluk of Thiruvarur District in Tamilnadu. Presiding deity is called as Sarguna
Nathar / Sarguneswarar / Manakola Nathar / Kalyaneswarar / Idumbavanewarar.
Mother is called as Mangalanayahi / Mangalavalli / Kalyaneswari. Hymns in
praise of the temple have been sung by the Saivite saint Sambandar in the Thevaram.
This is the 225th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva
Sthalam and 108th Shiva Sthalam on the south side of River
Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. The temple is frequented by people desiring to rid
themselves of the fear of death. The place is believed to have got its name
from a demon named Idumban who worshipped Shiva here and
attained salvation. In the vicinity of Idumbavanam is Thillaivilagam, a
Vaishnava Abhimanastalam enshrining Rama.

The temple is open from 6.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and from
4.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.
Festivals
Four worship services are offered each day and the annual
Brahmmotsavam is celebrated in the month of Vaikasi. Other festivals celebrated
here include Aani Tirumanjanam, Maha Shivaratri, Panguni Uthiram, Masi Makam,
Aippasi Annabishekam, Margazhi Utsavam, Karthikai Deepam, Arudra Dharisanam and
Thai Poosam. Navarathri, Aadi Pooram, and Skanda Sashti are also celebrated.
Singers
Tirugnanasambandar has sung hymns in praise of Lord
Shiva of this temple. This is the 225th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva
Sthalam and 108th Shiva Sthalam on the south side of River Cauvery in
Chozha Nadu.
Prayers
Devotees pray for removal of obstacles in wedding talks,
to defeat enemies and freedom from fear of death. Realizing their wishes,
devotees light lamps in the temple. They also offer (supply) oil for daily
lighting in the temple.

The Temple is located at about 16 Kms from Thiruthuraipoondi,
10 Kms from Thondiyakkadu, 18 Kms from Muthupettai, 12 kms from Voimedu, 1 Km
from Karpaganatharkulam, 32 Kms from Vedaranyam, 47 Kms from Mannargudi, 48 Kms
from Thiruvarur and 138 Kms from Trichy. Idumbavanam is located on Thiruthuraipoondi
– Puducherry road running through Thondiakadu. The town bus from
Thiruthuraipoondi to Thondiyakkadu passes through this place. Mini buses are
available from Muthupettai. Buses are also available from Voimedu. Nearest
Railway Station is located at Thiruthuraipoondi and Nearest Airport is located
at Trichy.
