Natham is an important pilgrimage centre visited by many devotees. The Mariamman Temple located here is one of the main shrines here. The temple celebrates annual festival during the month of February on a grand scale. The festival is celebrated for almost 15 days. Many other rituals and festivals are celebrated here like Pal Kudam, bearing fire pots, walking on fire and others. These are all dedicated to Amman.

Natham Kovilpatty Kailasanathar temple is another famous temple here. The temple dates back to the ancient times. Other than these Hindu temples there are many Churches and Masjids built here. 

Thousands of devotees witnessed the climbing of slippery pole, a rural sport conducted as part of annual Masi festival celebrations held at Sri Mariamman Temple in Natham on Tuesday.

Natham town wore a festive look as hundreds of devotees, clad in yellow, carried fire pots and took out a holy procession to reach the temple. Meanwhile, temple organizers prepared a ‘kundam’ (fire path) for the fire-walk festival. A few tonnes of fire wood were burnt to lay the fire-path, according to temple officials. The fire-walk ceremony commenced after the pole climbing event.

Festivals
The 15-day Masi festival also commenced with religious feverous, at Sri Mariamman Temple in Natham.

Thousands of devotees took out a procession here on Tuesday as part of the annual Masi festival of Mariamman Temple.

Earlier, devotees from hundreds of villages around Natham congregated at Karandai hill Kannimar Theertham near Uluppagudi and took a holy dip. Later, they took out a procession to Sandhana Karuppuswamy Temple at Natham.

They carried holy water in pots to perform ‘abishekam’ to the main deities. After special pujas were performed to the main deities, ‘Kaapu’ was tied.

Pilgrims took the holy ‘Kambam’ (wooden pole) in a procession to the temple from Amman Kulam. After erecting the pole in the outer prakaram of the temple, pilgrims would start pouring water on it from Wednesday.

Goddess Mariamman will be taken in procession around the town on various mounts during all festival days. Fire pot procession and climbing of slippery pole will be held on March 10. Fire walk will also take place the same day.

Temple administration has made arrangements to provide drinking water and toilet facilities during the festival.

Natham town panchayat has renovated the path leading to the temple and the tank for the convenience of pilgrims.
Sufficient police force was deployed to regulate the crowd. The annual Masi festival commenced with hoisting of flag in the temple on Monday.
